I Don’t Do Trends And I Don’t Not Do Them
I do my best not to follow trends, I don’t think that makes me a trendsetter. So much good music out there it’s hard not to be influenced by something and it’s almost impossible to ignore all the trends out there without looking or sounding like a complete fool. I do my best not to follow trends, I don’t think that makes me a trendsetter. I like a lot of different shit musically, actually I just like a lot of different shit. I think the majority of what’s being promoted and marketed to you is deeper than the surface of it. I also like what and how it’s being promoted and marketed to you because its deeper than the surface of it. I think all artist try to win, In one way or another (Corporations only want to win). I use to think fuck winning because I was misinformed. I thought “winning” in this game meant I had to win like the trends that are out there and are being followed. Now that I’ve seen a little more, done a little more, and got a little wiser I think it’s weird as fuck when an artist doesn’t want to win. Go out there and fucking win! People like winners, even if your winning at losing. Yes, winning at losing. There was a period in art and music that it was important to lose and be okay with it. Hit records like “loser” prove that being the best loser can be important to the culture. I would hear interviews with certain Rock stars that would say and I’m paraphrasing here, “we were just some loser kids.. blah blah blah” sometimes the trend is to be a loser and that means your winning. Art / music is one of the only platforms I can think of that will allow you to be celebrated for winning and losing. As long as it’s with the trend of the people. I do my best not to follow trends. I don’t think that makes me a trendsetter. It also doesn’t make me trendy until that’s the trend. I can only hope those who set trends don’t know it, I hope they are just doing them.
