Jackin For Beats
I’ve been jacking beats since I started rapping. I would sneak in studios when I didn’t even know how to rap and rap over other rappers records in hopes to rap better then them. Tone (Eaton) made beats all the time for me, even though I think he knew I wasn’t that good of a rapper but he put me thru like a training camp kind of thing. Making sure I wrote 3 verses and finished what I started. I appreciated it and still do, but even then I would rap over other beats. I like digging for beats, instrumentals. Just finding shit was fun and writing to the music as if I’m literally working with the producer was almost a rush for me. Still is a rush. I put out mixtapes because they forced me to be ambidextrous with lyrics. Also got me in the habit to explore different sounds and mixes. I told myself I would always do mixtapes as a way to stay up on jacking for beats and just not give a fuck about anything except what I gave a fuck about. Just be with music. I don’t claim to know much about music. I mean I couldn’t tell u who produced a lot of the shit that I like or who mixed it down and who mastered it or what the song was even about. I must add, I love and respect every part of the music making process. I like what I like and I’m okay with that. But hearing certain magic moments in instrumentals or music in general still gives me goosebumps. I’m loving working with producers and beat makers now. Making things from scratch. Just the challenge and joy is unmatched. It also makes me thankful for all those who allow me a chance to be apart of what someone has created. But. I’ll always do mixtapes for as long as I do music. Like a chicken cup of noodles. I’ll never turn my back.
